What was Purdue Day of Giving?

Purdue Day of Giving was an online-based fundraising event on April 30, 2014 that encouraged friends and alumni to come together, support their favorite unit and help it win prizes in matching funds. The following frequently asked questions regarded the events of that day.

How do I make a gift?

To make a gift on April 30, click the button to the right that says “Donate Now” and follow the directions provided. You can also make a gift by phone at 1 (800) 319-2199. Thank you for your support!

Is there a minimum donation amount?

Yes, there is a $10 minimum donation during the event.

How do I decide where to give?

You can choose from among many giving opportunities at Purdue University. Gifts to any fund make a vital difference in the lives of students. If you don’t wish to prioritize any one cause, you may donate to the participant’s listed unrestricted fund, which allocates donations to the area of greatest need.

If I give to “general giving opportunities” and do not designate a fund in the comments section where does my gift go?

If you do not select a fund, your gift will be designated to the President’s Student Affordability and Accessibility fund.

Where does challenge money go?

Challenge and prize money will go to the winning unit’s unrestricted fund.

What is the President’s Student Affordability and Accessibility Challenge?

Through the generosity of a proud Boilermaker, $500,000 is allocated as a one-to-one match for any gift, up to $25,000, made to the President’s Student Affordability and Accessibility Fund on Purdue Day of Giving. Donors may direct their gift to a particular academic or degree-granting unit located on the West Lafayette campus. The gift will be credited to the President’s Student Affordability and Accessibility Fund and allocated to Indiana students, who demonstrate certain levels of financial need, in the unit for which you expressed a preference. Visit any of the following participants’ pages and select the President’s Affordability and Accessibility Fund to double your impact:

When are the hourly challenge winners announced?

The times listed on the leaderboard are the times at which the challenges are awarded. The challenges start an hour before the awarded time. For example: The international challenge winning program will be announced at 10 a.m. EDT, and will begin at 9 a.m. EDT.

Can a donor send a gift by mail or phone?

Yes, but because of the short time frame of Purdue Day of Giving, only gifts that arrive on April 30 or are made by phone or online will count toward the contest goals or matching funds. You can make a gift by phone at 1 (800) 319-2199.

Can a donor make a pledge?

If you’d like to make a pledge (can be payable over five years), please fill out the pledge form and return it to gifts@prf.org or Purdue Foundation, Dick & Sandy Dauch Alumni Center, 403 West Wood St., West Lafayette, IN 47907-2007. Gifts or pledges supporting the Student Affordability and Accessibility Fund will receive a 1:1 match; however, pledges must be paid within 90 days).

Can I give via stock in support of Giving Day?

You can give a stock gift to support your favorite unit. For more information please contact PurdueDayofGiving@Purdue.edu.

Is it safe to make my gift online?

Yes. The Purdue Day of Giving utilizes a technology called Kimbia that is PCI Level 1 compliant. We are not storing, nor are we able to access your credit card information. Additionally, the information collected during Purdue Day of Giving will be used only by Purdue University.

Will my Day of Giving contribution be tax deductible?

Yes. Your gift is tax deductible. You will receive an e-mail confirmation that will serve as your receipt for tax purposes.

What can I do to help get the word out about Purdue Day of Giving?

How do I join online events, and is there a fee?

Purdue Day of Giving events are free and can be joined online. On April 30 there will be live-streaming events at 10:15 a.m., 12 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. EDT.
